Journeys

Spring is almost here!  The green of new life is breaking through the brown remnants of winter.  And we here at our house are facing new and unexpected journeys.

Kora has been diagnosed with possible bi-polar disorder.  She has had a very rough 18 months and seems to be doing a little better on the new medication.  Your prayers for her are more than appreciated.  Our journey down this path will be long, winding and difficult, but there will be great reward as well.

Anna has an official diagnosis from the Genetic Specialist!  She is missing 19 genes on the long arm of her 12th chromosome.  (Cyto location 12q13.13)  The doctors are not exactly sure what all that entails, as she is the first reported case of this specific genetic deletion.  We do know that this is the cause of her developmental delays.  (She is the equivalent of a 26 month old at 49 months of age) We are also examining her heart, kidneys and eyes closely to determine if there are any defects from the genetic deletion.  This, too, will prove to be a long road, but we expect much joy in the travels!

We are planning some actual traveling coming in the next few months...We are going up to Minneapolis in April (6-10) and to the WI Autism Conference at the Kalahari Resort in the Dells in May (6-9).  We'd love to see some of you, please drop a line and let me know if you have time for a visit!

Introducing...

Annabelle Joy!

Adopted on January 21, 2009.  We welcomed her into our family on her 4th birthday.  We celebrated with family and friends that day with a trip to the local Chuck E. Cheese!  Wow, what fun!  I got a little carried away with the games, but won 559 tickets!

Annabelle's baptism was the following Sunday, January 25th.  She, of course, needed to be chased down and dragged up to the alter.  As Pastor Frank baptized her, she got mad because he got her "HAIR ALL WET!"   She was the life of the party that afternoon as we enjoyed a potluck with more friends and family.

Anna'a Adoption/Baptism/Birthday Party!

Dear Family & Friends,

It is with great honor and joy we announce that Anna’s adoption finalization hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at the Courthouse. To make the day even more special, it also happens to be her 4th birthday!

We also rejoice in the celebration of new life as Anna Joy will be baptized on Sunday, January, 25th. The baptism will be held during the 9 am church service at our church.

To commemorate these momentous events in our lives we invite you to join us on Sunday, January 25th at 12pm. We will be hosting a potluck celebration in the lower level fellowship hall at the church. Please RSVP to me by Monday, January 19th.

As we look forward to these events, we are reminded of the verse in Isaiah 51:16, “…I have held thee in the palm of mine hand…”, and give thanks that He has and continues to do so!

Sincerely,
Staci, Kora & Anna Conrad

November 2008

Hi All,

Just a few updates...

  • After three brain surgeries and three weeks in ICU, my cousin Stephanie has been released from the hospital!  PRAISE GOD!  She is going to be in OT and PT for a while, and will be staying with her sister Sara until her home can be modified a bit to make it more safe for her.  AMAZING!
  • We said good-bye to Chey about 4 weeks ago.  It was hard, but she went to a wonderful new home.  Please pray for her and her new family!
  • We have been to many doctors while seeking a diagnosis for Anna.  We are ruling things out left and right, and that is a good place to start.  The fact is that we may never find out what exactly is going on.  Please pray that we will find whatever it is that God is having us look for.

I hope you are all having a great Autumn!  Drop me a line and let me know!

Blessings,

Staci

Pray for Stephanie!

Hi all,  Just a quick request for those of you that may not have already heard...My cousin, Stephanie, had a brain aneurism this past Friday.  Thankfully she was at work (in a hospital) and due to the quick response of her coworkers and and the docs that took over her case once she reached UW Hospital, she is doing very well.  Please keep her in your prayers.  She has two small kiddos and is also pregnant.

For more info you can visit http://stephaniesfight.blogspot.com/  That website is being updated daily by Steph's sister, Sara.
Thanks everyone!
Staci

"There is a time for everything"

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven" (Ecc 3:1) and you know the rest. (if you don't, you can check it out here)  Life at our house has hit like a ton of seasons all at once, and for a while it seemed as if there were no time at all.  We have surpassed a few milestones and are facing a host of big hurdles to come.  I thank those of you that have been praying us through it all!  We can't do any of this without you, and the grace of God, of course!

Some of the milestones we have survived as a family:
  • Getting a third child.  A beautiful, wonderful, delightful child that makes the whole world spin differently.  Anna is three years old and a bundle of joyful energy.
  • Giving notice to the county in charge of my other foster child's case, asking them to find her a new home.  This one was rough, very rough.  But I know this is not her home.  And I know she needs her forever family and needs them now.
  • Kora has returned to attending public school!  AND she LOVES IT!  She is doing so very very well and learning much already!  Praise God!
Some of the hurdles fast approaching:
  • The move of my four year old foster child that has lived with us for 15 months.  This event will be nothing short of traumatic for us all.  Please pray for us as we trust the Lord for her protection.
  • Doing the necessary repairs and remodeling for our much needed indoor play space in the basement - hopefully before winter!  This is the biggest 'lack of time' area for me.  It needs to be done, but not sure when to squeeze it in!  :)
  • The decsion to adopt or not adopt.  What is right for everybody?    It's a tricky thing, for certain!

I hope and pray you are all doing fabulously!  Please drop me an email and let me know!

A 'People Rummage Sale'

After a brief discussion on using appropriate words and the fact that it truly was time to get some sleep, Kora emerged from the bathroom and stated, "Tomorrow I am going to have a people rummage sale and sell you because I do not want you anymore.  I will sell you to people for 1,000 cents.  OH!  I will sell Anna, too for 55 cents, and Chey for 50 cents.  I will even sell Chloe (our cat) for 20 cents!"
